I have coordinated and participated in a number of outreach activities targeted at students, teachers and the general public:
- Co-editor of Histórias da Física em Portugal no Século XX, a book about the development of physics in Portugal in the 20th century
- Director (since 2013) of Gazeta de Física (web · facebook), the magazine of the Portuguese Physical Society
- Member of the editorial board of Europhysics News, the magazine of the European Physical Society
- Organizer (since 2012) the annual Workshop on Lasers for Secondary School Teachers at IPFN
- Co-organizer of Plasmasurf 2015 – Summer School on Plasma Physics – Special Year of Light Edition
- Member of the National Commission for the celebrations of the International Year of Light 2015. I gave several talks at schools and events and co-organized the Let There Be Light conference
- Member of the organizing committee of the exhibition In the Light of Einstein, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, 2005
- Coordinator of Image and Public Communication at IPFN
- Coordinator and co-editor of IPFN’s Annual Reports 2011, 2012-13, and 2014-15 editions
- Portuguese representative and board member of FuseCOM, the European Network of Fusion Communicators
- Invited speaker at several science communication and training events such as IST’s Physics Week, MEFT: Challenging the limits, National Physics Conference, Youth Science Meeting, Festa das Estrelas, ESERO’s Space Teachers and locations such as Pavilhão do Conhecimento, Planetário Calouste Gulbenkian, Museu da Electricidade, Portuguese Medical Association, Portuguese Engineers Association, National Museum of Natural History and Science, Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade do Porto and many secondary schools
- I have collaborated with the Ministry for Education in producing contents for schoolchildren about the properties of laser. Here is a video of me explaining to my son why we can’t yet build a lightsaber!
